We met… We met as young 15 year olds when I was playing on the local lads under 15 Gaelic football team! I remember Stephen offered to carry my bag after a match and I thought that was really nice. It wasn’t until our Leaving Cert year that we became a couple and met at lunch breaks. We celebrated our Leaving Cert results by going on a friends holiday to Crete. And we are together ever since.

Our proposal… We made the big decision to move to New Zealand in 2013. Stephen was making the move first in June and I followed in August. A week before Stephen left we went off for the day, first we went for a walk on the beach and ended up coming back by Glendalough. Stephen decided this was the spot!! I didn’t have a clue what was about to happen. While we were down by the lake, I decided it was a great photo opportunity. Stephen was getting ready to propose while I was busy trying to sit the camera on a tree!! I wasn’t happy with the first photo so ran back up to adjust the camera in the tree again!! At this stage the nerves were hitting Stephen! So when I went back up to get the camera, I turned around to find Stephen down on one knee!! Stephen has said he has never seen me as shocked!! It took me a minute or two to register what was happening! Of course, I said ‘Yes’!! Even after 10 years, he can catch me out!!

His suit… All the suits were from Suits You in Dublin.

My hair and makeup… My hair, bridesmaids and mams was done by the fabulous Mary and team from Mandika Hair Studio, Naas, Co. Kildare. Our makeup was done by the talented Laura Kinney Makeup, Dublin.

My dress… I bought my dress and accessories in Truly Bridal Boutique Naas. It was a Maggie Sottero with ivory and pewter accents. It was the lady in the shop that actually picked it out! I knew it was my dress when I tried it on, I love tulle and I even put a petticoat under it to give it a little volume. I said “Yes to the Dress” after shop two!

Our ceremony… took place at Our Lady & St Joseph’s Church, Caragh, Naas, Co. Kildare. We had music by Elaine Lynch, Ciaran Connaughton and Glenda McCormack (band members of the amazing band Bunoscionn).

What our bridal party wore… Our Bridesmaids wore Dessy dresses from Abelle Bridal in Trim.

We chose our photographer because… We knew from the first few emails that Couple Photography would be our photographers. Ros was so energetic and clearly loves her job. She wanted to get to know us and bring out our personalities in our wedding photographs. On the day, we had so much fun wandering around the gardens of Rathsallagh.

We chose our venue because… Rathsallagh House is just a magical venue and was our ideal venue. The gorgeous gardens to wander around, the cosy fires to sit beside in the house and the beautiful pavilion for dinner. Rathsallagh is really like a home from home, you have it to yourself for the day. We had amazing wedding coordinators at Rathsallagh House, Catherine, Gillian and Julie. They were so easy to deal with and nothing was an issue, they were so helpful.

Our honeymoon… We had friends visit from New Zealand for our wedding so we planned a road trip of Ireland with them, including the ring of Kerry, surfing in Lahinch, the Cliffs of Moher and Croagh Patrick. Then myself & Stephen went to the Neptune Hotel in Dubrovnik, Crotia for a week.

My favourite part of the wedding day…  My favourite part of the day was our first dance, I didn’t think it would be but when I heard our song, David Gray’s ‘You’re the One I Love’ it took me back to when we were 17 listening to it.

Our menu… I am a vegetarian and Rathsallagh were so accommodating, we attended meal tastings twice to try a few different options. We went with the Roast Vegetable Soup with Chive Cream, House Duck, Poached Pear, Spiced Puree, Mixed Leaves & Candied Peanuts for starter, Roast Striploin of Beef with Creamed Potatoes and Red Wine Jus for main with options of fish or vegetarian. Dessert was Apple Tart Tatin with Homemade Maple Walnut Ice Cream.

Our wedding theme/colours… We wanted a relaxed atmosphere and we picked Rathsallagh House and took our theme from the gardens and woods around Rathsallagh. I love the colour blue and incorporated it throughout with the bridesmaid dresses, mass booklets and invitations, even down to my shoes!

My piece of advice for other couples… it is true what everyone says, the day goes so quickly!! If you can, I would recommend getting a video! I can’t wait to see mine, to relive the day and in years to come, it will be treasured to have those precious memories to look back on.
