A Chic Summerhill House Wedding by Couple Photography

“I got ready in my home house and my brother drove myself and my sister to the hotel to put on my dress, which our groomsmen had bravely taken up the night before.”

We met… Myself and Rich met just over 8 and a half years ago in UCD. He was studying agricultural science and I was studying nursing. We first met in the library, both studying very hard clearly!!!!! We slowly became friendly and then met in Copper Face Jacks in town after a nurses night out on campus and since then we have been inseparable.

Our proposal… Rich and myself were on an empty beach in Dubai when he got down on one knee. We then went to the Diamond District and got the opportunity to design our ring and choose the diamonds for the ring.

My hair and makeup… My hair was done by Lisa Corcoran who is based in Portlaoise and my makeup was done by Ilons Kachniarz of Rustiq Beauty Kilkenny.

Our ceremony… was celebrated by Father William Hennessy in Our lady of the Wayside, Kilternan, also known as the little blue church. Fr. Hennessy is Annie’s local parish priest at her home in Laois.

We chose our photographer because… she came so highly recommended. When I first telephoned Roslyn (Couple Photography), she was so bubbly, enthusiastic and approachable. Noting was too much to ask. She had just photographed my friend’s wedding and her photos were just beautiful. I also loved the blog style article she writes and how she takes time to get to know the bride and groom. Anna and Roslyn were so relaxed and discreet on our wedding day. That morning in Laois, they just slipped in and joined in the buzz and celebrations with Annie and her family and friends as they were getting ready

Our wedding theme… We both love to travel and decided to have our invites made in the shape of a postcard with a map of the world on parchment style paper. Our table plan was a larger version of our invite with luggage tags for each table.

We chose our venue because… We had originally planned to go to Avoca the day we booked our venue, Summerhill House Hotel in Enniskerry. Avoca was closed and we wanted coffee and a scone and by accident arrived at Summerhill House. It was everything we hoped for and more on the day. It has a beautiful garden to the front and the vintage country house itself is beautiful. Everyone was so friendly and from the moment we stepped inside that first day, we knew it was the perfect place for us.

Our menu… As I’m from Laois and Rich is from Wexford, we thought it would be lovely if we had our sisters join us for our menu tasting. We had plenty of help to choose and must say the food in Summerhill was beautiful. We tasted almost everything before we finally made our decision. We also had a cocktail made for everyone once we were seated for dinner.

Our honeymoon… We flew from Dublin to Orlando where we spent three days exploring theme parks. We then made our way to Miami for two nights and then boarded the Celebrity Equinox Ship for a week long Caribbean cruise.

My favourite part of the wedding day… We both agree the ceremony was our highlight . However the prosecco and beer reception after the ceremony with Manila Strings playing music in the garden was fabulous. We were blessed with the weather. Our wedding day was everything we could have wished for. We had our closest friends and family beside us. We had friends from around the globe make their way home to be with us. It was surprisingly relaxed and everything ran to time. I got ready in my home house and my brother drove myself and my sister to the hotel to put on my dress, which our groomsmen had bravely taken up the night before.

My piece of advice for other couples… Relax and enjoy your day. It really does fly by. Before we went in for dinner, myself, Rich, our groomsmen Brendan and Jody and bridesmaids Theresa and Elaine had a drink together and we really enjoyed that time as well.
