We met… in May 2000, both through mutual friends and through our local GAA club. We dated on/off for a few years and finally got together on November 12th 2006 and then got married 10 years later on November 12th 2016.
Our proposal… Low key but perfect, which made it just about us!! We got engaged in our own home in June 2015 at 2am in the morning after my flight got delayed coming home from London.
My hair and makeup… I wanted to look natural and like me on the day, so I was lucky to secure Rebecca O’Sullivan for makeup and Sarah Brennan from Eternal Flare in Newbridge for my hair and bridal party upstyles. My makeup was perfect but minimal and my hair, well let’s say you can never go far wrong with a curly blow dry. Both girls really listened to what we all wanted on the day, they both have amazing talents and worked really well together.
My dress… I am not really a dressy type person, but I left my trust in a few close family and friends and the amazing Colin in The Town Bride. The dress in the end was a full length ivory off the shoulder lace number and looking back now I do not think I could have found a better dress for me.
His suit… We got all the suits from Whelan’s Menswear in Naas, they were brilliant to work with from start to finish, there was never anything too big to ask. We would definitely recommend them to other couples.
Our ceremony… Our wedding ceremony was held in St. Conleth’s Parish Church in Newbridge – it was always going to be our first choice. The ceremony itself was very personal and the priest made us feel at ease which helped to settle any last minute nerves. You don’t realise until after how quick it goes so try to take each moment in.
We chose our photographer because… After numerous recommendations about Eric (Eric Molimard Photography) and having looked through his work, we knew we wanted him to capture our wedding day and much more. His style is quite different from others. Shoots did not feel staged on the day, we were not away from our guests for long periods, but mostly he listened to what we both really wanted from our day and delivered 100%. His relaxed yet professional manner and skills did not disappoint and we came back from honeymoon to the most amazing collection of wedding photos and memories, some of which otherwise we would have missed.
We chose our venue because… Firstly we wanted somewhere local that our guests did not have to travel too far to. And secondly a venue with a wow factor and from walking through the doors of The Heritage Killenard on our first visit, we knew we had found both. The rest we left up to the amazing staff at the Heritage and the day came together perfectly.
Our honeymoon… We decided that we wanted to go somewhere that we probably wouldn’t ever get to experience again, we were both lucky to get the time off work so we travelled around New Zealand for a month taking in everything the North and South Island could offer, then flew to Fiji afterwards for a week’s relaxation before heading back home to reality. It was the perfect end to a perfect time in our lives.
We chose our wedding coordinator because… Our wedding coordinator Trish was amazing, she was the ear on the other end of the phone when we had any questions, and her advice and experience really contributed to making the reception everything we wanted and more on the day.
Our wedding theme/colours… Our colour scheme was basically navys, greys and ivorys, which we both think came together well on the day. The theme was rustic/country style – let’s just say many hours were put into sanding wooden logs, collecting different style jars and cutting burlap.
Our menu… Bres knows his food so I left that decision to him and he got it spot on. For starters we had chicken and wild mushroom bouchee, followed by leek and potato soup with parmesan croutons. For mains there was a choice between roast sirloin of Glasson farm beef or baked fillet of sea bass stuffed with baby spinach. For the dessert option, we chose something light and picked meringue nests filled with mixed berries and creme chantilly
My favourite part of the wedding day… Was having both our families and friends together in the one place celebrating with us.
What our bridal party wore… Our flower girl dress was from the John Rocha collection from Dunnes Stores and my bridesmaids all wore slate grey Dessy dresses that we bought from Wedding World in Fairview. I bought the bridal party jewellery in Newbridge silverware, it was also a nice keepsake to give the girls on the day. The girls picked rose gold shoes to go with the grey dresses and we bought them in River Island.
My piece of advice for other couples… Everything works out on the day, so relax, the day goes by quicker than you can imagine so try not to get too hung up on the little things as this can really take from the whole experience.
