We decided to have a spiritualist ceremony in the hotel’s pavilion. We chose this as we could customize the ceremony in every detail – music, readings etc – to suit our style. Our celebrant Eileen Morris went above and beyond to ensure that everything was how we wanted it even coming down the night before to do a run through of the ceremony with all the bridal party.
Reception location:
We had our ceremony and reception at the same location in Seafield Hotel & Spa in Wexford. We had our ceremony in the pavilion and our drinks reception in the Club House overlooking the sea. Dinner, drinks and dancing in the Aine Suite the hotel’s main ballroom. We were there for three days, arriving on Friday, having finger food and drinks at the hotel bar’s outside heated terrace with wedding guests arriving on Friday. On Sunday we had BBQ and music in the Clubhouse.
How did you meet?
We met while working on cruise ships. I have been with the same cruise line for three years when my husband joined the same cruise line after a few years with a different company.
How did he propose?
We went on holidays to Hungary where Mate is from and we were in Mate’s hometown of Szeged. It was my birthday and we had just been out for dinner when Mate said we have to go back to the hotel so he could give me my present. When we returned they were all laid out nicely in the room and he mentioned when giving me my birthday card that my mother had also given him a card to give to me which he left in the car’s glove compartment in Dublin airport, he presented me with another card to compensate for the one he forgot, when I opened it, it said “To my beautiful fiancee on your birthday” I read the card about three times before I realized what was going on, only to see Mate on one knee with the ring in hand. He chose the ring himself and he got it spot on I love it. There were lots of tears of joy and it was such a magical time that we got to share just the two of us. We then popped the champagne and Skyped our parents to celebrate. We then headed out to dance the night away.
What was important for you both when planning your wedding?
We wanted to make sure that our guests had a great time and that our venue provided a high quality of food and service and that our band had everybody up dancing from the get-go. We wanted a really relaxed day surrounded by all the people we love.
Did you have a wedding theme?
Because we met on a cruise ship and also because we love to travel we had a mixed travel and nautical theme.

Where did you get the Bridesmaids Dresses?
We bought the dresses online Stacees a UK based Store.
Where did the groom and the groomsmen get their suits?
Protocol – Dawson Street.
Who did your hair and make up?
Hair – Allison Mc Cabe and Make-up Marie Joseph
What do you remember most from the ceremony?
Walking down the aisle with my stepdad Maurice and seeing Mate turn around at the top. Trying to get the ring on Mate’s finger (it was a challenge).

What was special to you in the ceremony?
Seeing all the planning and small details come together. Having our friends and family participate in the ceremony.
How did you choose your venue?
We had a few criteria – not more than an hour and a half from Dublin, picturesque setting, a high standard of rooms and service, enough rooms for most wedding guests, flexibility with package/decoration.
We have visited 6 venues over a couple of days, Seafield was the third. We both just felt that it was the right one. The Sales Manager was great during the show-around, easy to deal with and very flexible.
What was your favorite part of the wedding day?
Seeing all our friends and family together celebrating with us.
And having a few minutes just the two of us before the meal started.
Have you any advice for future couples planning their wedding?
Start early (and start saving early), plan in advance. Have a clear vision of how you want your day to run and communicate it to all your suppliers and bridal party. Make decisions together and don’t stress over what you can’t control. Don’t tell too many people about your plans for the day- let them be surprised on the day.
Make sure to allocate enough in the budget to deal with the smaller details, they add up.
