10 Things You Can Do Now That You’re Engaged

Advice, Engagement

A huge congratulations to our newly engaged brides and grooms-to-be! This is such an exciting time, with lots of amazing things to look forward to. So while the glow is still fresh and you’re still sneaking little glimpses at the pretty addition to your ring finger (this will last awhile!), we thought we’d share a few little things that make this time so unique.

Savouring your Shiny Sparkler

Your engagement ring, this little silver of metal tells the world that you’ve found your ‘one’ and it is the loveliest feeling. If you’re on the hunt for your ring, the excitement is about to step up a gear as you set out to find a rock that’s just right for you. If your romantic fiancé has already chosen a ring to wow you with, get accustomed to its new home on your left hand. Eye it up, lavish the gorgeous glint, check out its prettiness – you’ll be so loved up you won’t want to take it off come bedtime.

Celebrate

You’re fit to burst from all the excitement! You want to scream it from your apartment top, skip up Grafton Street and twirl about brandishing your brand sparkly new fáinne at every opportunity. Sharing your amazing news is part of the engagement fun. Throw a party, meet your friends and family for drinks and crack open the bubbles. And this is one occasion where you won’t get weird looks from people swilling champers for breakfast, lunch and dinner and all in the one day.

Joining the weddingsonline Family

Now that you’re a fully fledged bridling, signing up to weddingsonline comes with the territory. Your very own planning space, a little spot for all your to-do lists (there’ll be plenty of them), your very own countdown to the big day (oh the joy as it inches ever closer), a place to chat/vent with other brides and grooms via the forums, all the tips and tricks any bride could ever need and your own service and venue finder, we’re here to help you every step of the way. The best part of signing up is the little glow that comes from gaining  access to a world you’re now allowed be part of – it’s like being 18 all over and finally getting in to that bar!

Play Dress Up

The dress, oh the dress. Every little girl grows up hoping one day she’ll meet her prince charming and get to wear one… and now your day has come! You can officially start the search. If you’re not ready to don dresses just yet, there’s no harm in doing a bit of window shopping – start pouring through our galleries and bridal shops to get an idea of what styles are out there and what it is you like. And when you do get to the shopping stage, embrace every second of it and twirl as much as you please!

Name Change

Ladies, it’s time to transition! Gone are the days when you introduce your man as your humble old BF, there’s a new word in town – fiancé (that’s one é with an accent for the boys and double ée (fiancée) for the gals!). It may take a little while to get used to (it kind of does feel like you’re playing grown-ups at the start) but it’s good training for the other new word that will be entering your vocab before you know it, hubby – yay!

Pin and Pin Some More

If you haven’t already been introduced to the wonder that is Pinterest, get on it! This will be your VBF when it comes to sourcing inspiration for your big day. You can literally get lost in hundreds of swoon worthy images that will help you hone in on what it is you’re after for your wedding look. Just a little heads up though – it is highly addictive so you might want to cancel the social life for the next while!

Scribble Your New Name-to-be

So you might have been fantasising about it for quite some time and for fear of jinxing it, jumping the gun, or feeling a little bit like a stalker, you couldn’t quite put pen to paper. Well now’s your time to try out your new surname-to-be (if indeed you’re making the switch). Scrawl as much as you wish, as extravagant as you fancy – that little shiner on your left hand means its green lights all the way. Don’t forget the obligatory love hearts <3

Change your Status

You’ve been ‘in a relationship’ as long as you can remember, now with one little click you’re engaged! Aah the power of social media. If you haven’t already kissed your old status goodbye on Facebook, get on it lady. It’s not about gloating (although it is quite the glowy feeling seeing your new status in print), it’s a statement of fact and will give you quite the little buzz as well.

Set a Date

So you’ve always pictured yourself as an Autumn bride? Now you can actually make that happen! Once the ring has been admired, more than likely in the same sentence as ‘Congrats’ will come the next big question on everyone’s lips, “Have you set a date?”. Pencilling in a date really makes it all the more real, and exciting, as you’ve something to work towards and look forward to. So start talking about when W-day will go down and let the countdown begin!

Dream Away

Now is the time to start dreaming and scheming about what you do and don’t want. Start browsing the blog, drink in all the images in the weddingsonline galleries, follow pin boards and get pinning yourself. Lose yourself to all things bridal – for many of us ladies this day is one we dreamed about since we read our first fairytale (or watched Father of the Bride) so forgive us if we have that dazed look for a week or three. Now that it’s actually happening, soak up all this loveliness, let your wedding tears take pride of place on your dresser and dream away!
