9 Wedding Planning Resolutions to Stick To

Planning

The New Year is upon us and resolutions are flying about! If you’re new to the wedding scene and want to plan like a pro and avoid stress along the way, here are some wedding planning resolutions you should stick to…

Find wedding suppliers!

I will stick to my budget

Setting a budget is a biggie. It’s easy to get carried away once you start planning away but if you want to have a life beyond the wedding and not be saddled with a load of debt post ‘I Do’, set a realistic budget with a contingency and stick. to. It. You’ll be way less stressed if you do.

I will listen to my gut

Everyone is going to have an opinion or offer up some nugget of advice. But ultimately, you and your partner make the decisions and you need to be happy about them. You want the day to feel like it’s yours and not what’s expected of you. Traditions no longer play such a big part in weddings, so if you don’t want a bridal party or first dance, then so be it! Once you’re both confident with your choices, that’s all that matters.

I will enjoy some time away from it

Planning can become like a second job and loose its shine fast. Make a wedding planning resolutions to avoid spending all your free time on it and turning it into a chore. Make sure to have conversations that don’t revolve around the wedding and nights away from the Pinboards and spreadsheets. You’ll look forward to the days you do plan more as a result.

I will trust my wedding suppliers

Your wedding suppliers do this day in day out and want you to have the most amazing day. They’re the best at what they do so let them get on with it (no need to micromanage every detail) and you’ll have less to worry about!

I will share the load

Often one person can take on the bulk of the planning but there are two of you tying the knot. If you want the day to be about you both, make a wedding planning resolution to chat through decisions and share out the tasks. It will be way more enjoyable if one of you isn’t shouldering all the tasks on the to-do list and it feels like a journey you’re going on together!

I won’t be afraid to ask for help

But if you do feel like you’re planning a wedding all by yourself, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your partner might feel like they didn’t get a chance to get involved. People are only too happy to get involved whether your rope in the maids to help with DIY, or your mum to give you a hand with the invites and addresses.

I will compromise

While you may be on the same page for a lot of things, there may be some planning elements you and your OH don’t agree on. The day is about both of you so compromising is part of the journey. As one of your wedding planning resolutions, you can agree that if you don’t like your OH’s suggession, and OH doesn’t like your suggestion, you’ll come up with a completely new suggestion together.

I will enjoy the planning process

Planning can come with a whole heap of stresses BUT it can also be a lot of fun. So make the most of all the planning milestones – savour the shopping trips with your girls, choosing rings with your partner and the Ikea jaunts for all your décor. It will fly by and when it’s all over, you’ll be more than likely wishing you could do it all again.

I will remember the reason why we’re doing this

And this is one of the most important wedding planning resolutions. It’s easy to get carried away choosing centerpieces, DIYing up a storm and booking every entertainment option under the sun. But don’t lose sight of the real reason you’re doing this, getting to spend forever with the love of your life.
