Understand what she needs

Every bride is different, so it’s important to understand what your bestie needs in this season. Some brides love having the help of their bridesmaids to plan their wedding, while others prefer to do this with their partner. If you’re not sure what level of involvement your bestie would like from you, just have a chat and ask. What to do if the bride isn’t a good delegator? Offer to take on specific tasks that you know will ease the burden for her.

Share inspiration

Help your bestie plan the perfect day by sharing fab wedding inspiration. Not only will you be able to share in her excitement, but you may just suggest something she’s never thought of.

Here are three ways to do it:

  1. Send her pics of real couples and how they’ve done things (you’ll find loads on our blog here!).
  2. Listen to our wedding planning podcast and share any pearls of wisdom you find (there are tons).
  3. Follow us on Instagram and tag your bestie in posts you think she’ll like. We share lots of pretty inspo and practical wedding planning tips and checklists.

Make an effort with the other bridesmaids

Your bestie has chosen all of you to stand by her side on the day and in the lead-up to the day. Make time and effort to get to know the other bridesmaids and to work well together. The goal is to give the bride the best and most hassle-free wedding planning experience. Avoid all drama and do your best to keep the girls together!

Love your dress

As a bridesmaid, you have the honour of wearing a gorgeous dress (or jumpsuit, or whatever else your bestie loves) on the day. Sometimes you’ll be privy to the dress choice ahead of time, sometimes you’ll be asked for your opinion, and depending on how chilled the bride is, you may get to pick whatever you like. Whatever the option, be relaxed and as accommodating as you can be. Give the bride your measurements in good time, if that’s what she needs. If you’re not sure who’s paying, ask!

Be tactful

Just because you’re trying to be the best bridesmaid doesn’t mean you don’t get to share your opinion. Your bestie wants to know what you think, so be prepared to tell her, but do it in a tactful way. Whenever you share your opinion, be kind, be gentle and avoid being harsh or mean.

Plan an amazing hen party

The Maid of Honour will likely take the lead on this, but be prepared to help plan an amazing hen party. If you want to be the best bridesmaid, we recommend having ideas ready to share! Then, be flexible and ready to go with the flow.

On the Big Day

Wondering how to be the best bridesmaid on the day? You’ll definitely have duties and things to do. Resist the urge to think your job is done once you’ve walked down the aisle. Ask for a running schedule of the day so you can help keep things moving. Make a point of welcoming guests and helping to keep the party fun! And once the dancing begins, don’t be afraid to be the first one on the dance floor.

Be supportive

Wedding planning can be overwhelming. Make a point of being available to help! See how you can alleviate stress, and just be there for her.
