Good morning! Our gorgeous wedding comes from Skibbereen in County Cork today. Suzanne and Ronan chose an elegant theme using hints of ivy throughout their day, which was captured by Swedish photographer, Mathias Cederholm.
Suzanne and Ronan first met at a Christmas party in 2007 and after six months moved in together. They got engaged during their travels around New Zealand in 2011 when they were visiting for the rugby World Cup.
“We had visited Queenstown when Ronan suggested a quick detour to Glenorchy, a tiny village surrounded by snow-capped mountains on all sides. Ronan proposed on a small jetty jutting out into the lake just outside the village in the early hours of the morning,” said Suzanne.
Not wanting to rush into their wedding planning the couple spent the following two years gathering advice from their friends and family, really working out how they wanted to celebrate their day.
“The most important factor was it would be relaxed, for us and for everyone attending, so that meant planning early and giving ourselves a chance to think about items and change our minds if need be,” added Suzanne.
“Taking the time to plan our day meant we had the wedding paid off by the time the day arrived,” said Suzanne.
Both Suzanne and Ronan envisioned a simple, relaxed day. As Suzanne loves the colour of ivy she added hints of this beautiful rich Irish shade throughout the day on the invitations, the bridesmaids dresses, grooms party ties and on the beautiful wedding cake. To add extra warmth splashes of pink were used.
“I got my dress at Little White Dress in Castleknock, Dublin. I had been to a few shops in Cork over the previous few months, so I had a good idea of the shape, colour and material that I wanted at that point. It was the lace, the neckline and the back drew me to pick the dress. My bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung gowns. As one of my sisters lives in Sweden I needed a good website where we could all look and choose without fitting. I chose Alfred Sung because they have a very extensive website and Diamond Bridal in Cork were able to order them in for me,” added Suzanne.
“The day went great – no near disasters or major issues. En-route to Lissard Estate, where we were getting our pictures taken, a couple pulled up in the car next to us and while they could clearly see we were getting married (they even said congratulations), the man proceeded to ask us for directions. The woman started tapping his shoulder to get him to move on but he persisted – totally unaware that we obviously had other things to be doing! Having our pictures taken in Lissard Estate was the highlight for me. It was the only time during the whole day we had time to ourselves as husband and wife and I loved every minute of it. Ronan loved the speeches, it was wonderful to hear from other members of the family how much we mean to each other,” said Suzanne.
