So sweet, todays bride, Michelle says her life is just better with hubby Eoin in it! Get ready for a day filled with love and laughter, stunning style and a marquee very fit for a big party! Thanks to Olga from Mrs Redhead Photography for sharing this quirky day with us.
Michelle and Eoin first met when they were in the same class at University College Cork, although at this stage they were only friends. It was the year after they both graduated that cupid struck;
“We moved in together with friends the year after leaving college, we got on really well and towards the end of that year decided to give things a go. I moved to London for work soon after but the long distance challenge did us good and Eoin followed a few years later,” explained Michelle.
After seven years of dating Eoin popped the surprise question whilst they were in Ibiza on holiday.
As much as Eoin likes to tell people that it was while we were out clubbing, we were actually in a beautiful hotel called Hacienda Na Xamena in the north of the island, although a brilliant night in Ibiza the evening before meant I was not exactly in great shape for the occasion! Our room overlooked a view that I can only describe as being like the Cliffs of Moher and we were enjoying a nice bottle of red wine when he produced the ring box. I think we will keep the finer details to ourselves!” said Michelle.
Michelle is a project manager by profession so planning her May 2014 wedding to Eoin didn’t phase her at all! The couple wanted a fun, bright, relaxed wedding and chose the marquee at Hotel Doolin for their reception. The marquee has a relaxed, festival vibe which both Michelle and Eoin loved and booked it within a week of viewing. With the help of family, friends and a great team of bridesmaids the day easily came together and was a magical sight to behold! The stunning floral arrangements by Anne Mahon at The Flower Den, really added the extra layer of awesomeness!
“I had a few DIY elements and even though they took time and effort, on the day I think it was worth it as they looked good and made it more personal to Eoin and me. My bridesmaids were all brilliant in helping with those bits including the table numbers which were basically Hobbycraft numbers papered in all different colours and cute “good luck” envelopes for our favours (lotto scratch cards). I also typed and printed my own mass scrolls. One of our bridesmaids, Claire, wrote an endearing poem about ‘our eight year story’ that was printed and displayed with the cake.
There were two very special homemade or DIY aspects. My sister made my headpiece from two gold vintage combs and a chain that she bought in a second hand store in Dublin; I loved it so much. And Eoin’s sister Catherine baked the most exquisite three tier cake; the detail was astounding and it took centre stage at the wedding reception. All those elements together made the wedding really personal and when I think back on the day, it is those small details that stand out,” said Michelle.
“My favourite memory of our day was walking into the church to see all the smiling faces, hear the beautiful music of “The Lark in the Clear Air’ and the vision of Eoin standing at the top. I had been quite nervous before entering the church but once I stepped inside those anxieties fell away. I also loved when we arrived at the Reception after the photos – the buzz was electric with chatter of friends and family from near and far, that feeling was unforgettable,” said Michelle.
Eoin’s favourite memory was;
“Meeting everyone outside the church before the wedding stands out for me. It almost beat walking back down the aisle with my new wife to cheers and applause.”
