When do I send out my save the date cards?
Save the date cards are a particularly good idea if you are planning a wedding abroad as this allows your guests plenty of time to make travel arrangements, organise time off work and book accommodation. It is best to send them out about nine months to a year before your wedding to give plenty of notice and ensure the maximum number of people will be able to attend your wedding. Similarly, if you are having a local wedding I would suggest that if you are inviting family and friends from abroad you should send them save the date cards well in advance also.
Who do I send save the date cards to?
Save the date cards should be sent to everybody who you would like to attend your wedding – even if you know that they probably will not be able to attend it’s important that they know they were thought of and invited. Also, don’t forget to follow up and send every person who received a save the date an invitation suite also – it’s a good idea to keep a record of everybody you posted one to, just to be sure!
What details should I include on my save the dates?
Save the date cards generally include the following details: the names of the couple getting married, the date and your wedding location, i.e. Enniskerry, Wicklow. You can save all the details of your venue, time, travel and accommodation details for your formal invitation. A line saying ‘Details to follow’ can be included to let your guests know that a more detailed formal invitation will be sent to them closer to the date. You do not need to not include an RSVP card as a save the date card serves as an announcement only – save all other details for your invitation suite.
How do I choose a design for my save the dates?
As with your wedding invitations, your save the dates are your guests first glimpse into your big day. Your save the date cards should reflect your style and personality. For example, if you are having a formal, black tie affair it is best to choose a sophisticated, elegant save the date to mirror this. You should also then tie in your wedding invitation suite to match your save the date cards to keep the look of your wedding consistent.
