Say hello to Shauna and Ronan who got engaged during lockdown. They tied the knot at the beautiful Boyne Hill House, which was the only wedding venue they viewed! To make the wedding even more special, it was captured by Shauna’s longtime family friend, Ros of Couple Photography.

Shauna and Ronan met while both travelling through Asia in 2015. They ‘bumped’ into each other on a beach in Phi Phi. Shauna was at the end of her trip and Ronan was only starting his. They stayed in touch and met up the night Ronan landed back in Dublin. Turns out they lived 10 minutes from each other and had lots of connections they never knew about! They went all the way to Thailand to meet a Dub!

Their engagement took place during lockdown in February 2021.

“We were living together in an apartment in town. I came home to notes lining the hall which rhymed. When I opened the door to the kitchen Ronan was on his guitar singing a rendition of ‘Black Velvet Band’ but he had changed the words to fit a story about us meeting. I didn’t really know what was happening and was singing along on the chorus until he finished and got down on one knee!”

Their wedding colour scheme was baby blue, white and cream.

“Theme was elegant and glamorous! And a little bit sexy! We also wanted a fun wedding with lots of dancing which we got!”

Shauna didn’t want the typical dress and had found Verona Bridal on Instagram from some research.

“I actually picked the first dress I tried on after of course trying on more and always coming back to the first! My dress was figure hugging and fully beaded – it weighed just under 5 kilos! It had a fab long train and I matched it with a cathedral veil with diamante detailing.”

Ronan got a custom made suit in Louis Copeland which he absolutely loved. It was a navy blue 3 piece with double breasted waistcoat!

The bridesmaids wore a baby blue House of CB dress – they all looked stunning! It was a midi dress with a boned corset top.

The groomsmen, father of the bride and father of the groom wore suits from Swan – also a navy 3 piece but different to Ronan’s.

“Our ceremony was very personal to us. Tara Carroll did an amazing job and everyone said so afterwards. We’re both only children and had our mothers with us to light the candles.”

Boyne Hill House is the only venue they actually viewed.

“We originally had wanted to do a destination wedding but restrictions were only lifting and we didn’t want to have to delay or compromise on who could be there. We wanted an intimate and exclusive venue, which Boyne Hill offered. It was the perfect choice for us! And all our party guests!

We also did a night before with the wedding party, which was really nice and gave everyone a chance to settle in and made it easier to get up for my 7:30am hair start.”

Their wedding was beautifully captured by Ros of Couple Photography.

“Roslyn from Couple Photography has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old! Her and my mam were friends from then and I grew up helping her at wedding fairs and also posed for her as a ‘bride’ over the years! She photographed my Mum’s wedding also so there was no hesitation when choosing her for our photographer. Roslyn was always going to shoot my real wedding! She has a way of getting the shot when no one is looking! And also makes everyone feel so relaxed with no awkward posing. Everything is fun with Roslyn.”

Shauna and Ronan chose DJ & Sax to entertain their guests for the night!

“They were amazing. We love 90s dance classics and anything that will have everyone up dancing. We booked the sax and the drums and it was definitely a hit! We still have people saying it was the best night and so much fun! We also opted to have a string quartet for the ceremony. They played ‘2 become 1’ by the Spice Girls on the string quartet as I walked down the aisle! It was magical.”

Shauna’s favourite memory of the day would probably be their entrance to the dinner.

“Previous weddings we’d been at we never really heard the song as it wasn’t that loud. We chose ‘Finally’ by Cece Penison, which was absolutely blasted and everyone was up swinging their napkins and dancing for the whole song. When we sat down we actually had to get back up as everyone was still going!”

This is Shauna and Ronan’s brilliant wedding day advice for other couples:

“Share the work! It’s a lot of stress and organisation but honestly it will all work out and you won’t be thinking of any of that on the day. You’ll be having too much fun!”
