Caroline and Cian met on a night out on St Patrick’s Day in Dublin in 2013! It was a complete chance meeting, because Caroline is from Monaghan and Cian from Limerick, both working in Dublin. Their proposal was simple, romantic and very ‘them’. In January 2021, Cian proposed at home and went to a lot of effort to make it special with candles and flowers.
Their wedding was minimalist in theme, with a pop of Wild Berry colour in the bridesmaid’s dress and flowers. Caroline and Cian are both very into music, so it was important to them to incorporate this into their day. They mixed Irish traditions (like walking out to the Mario Waltz) and music heroes, like Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and David Bowie featured throughout the day. They also had a record player guest book to add to the theme!
They had one bridesmaid (Caroline’s sister, Michelle) and one groomsmen (Cian’s brother, Cillian). Michelle’s dress was a wild berry coloured dress with a beautiful cowl back. She wore a bespoke hair piece in the same colour, by Sarah Deering. Cillian wore a navy suit with a silver tie. The two flower girls were their nieces, Maisie and Eimear, who wore dresses, shoes and cardigans from Next, with hair clips made by Sarah Deering.
For entertainment, they had Emily O’Dwyer at the drinks reception and their band, Electric Circus kept everyone on the dance floor. They even allowed Cian and his friends, Shane and Peter to play a song on the night, reuniting their old band!
It was hard for them to choose just one favourite memory from the day, but here’s what Caroline said: “Being surrounded by our family and friends and having our wedding without a covid curfew was just magic. We had a moment at the meal where we looked around and just took it all in which was special, but the day was like a blink and was over before we knew it!”
