Wedding theme: soft romantic elegant feel (dusty pink, navy) with some personal touches.

We met 12 years ago at a mutual friend’s party briefly and a few weeks later again on a night out in Dublin where we were both celebrating our birthdays. That night we realized that our birthday wasn’t the only thing we had in common and the rest is history.

Proposal… Alan proposed in Santorini, Greece. After a long day hiking, we finally arrived home to our balcony where the sun was setting over the island of Oia. Alan plucked up the courage, got down on one knee and after I stopped laughing with nerves and excitement, I said yes.

Venue… We chose our venue because we knew we wanted to get married in a castle. As soon as we walked up the steps of Markree we knew it was very special. It’s an exclusive hire, which meant we could spend the weekend in a castle surrounded by our nearest and dearest and it was just us. Every nook and cranny of Markree is finished to a very high standard and each room is unique. It also has such a homely feel and the service is out of this world.

Videographer… We chose Wedding Moments as our videographer because from the moment I spoke to
Johnny on the phone we got on well. He seemed so professional and knowledgeable and very helpful. We are not from Sligo, but Johnny recommended some local suppliers that we ended up booking and true to his word they were all excellent. I think it’s important to have a good relationship with your photographer and videographer as they do spend a good proportion of the day with you. We met Johnny for a cup of tea before our wedding and he went through the order of the day and what to expect from him. I can honestly say having him there on the morning of the wedding made me feel at ease and I knew from looking at his previous work he was going to produce a very special wedding video.

My favourite part of the wedding day… Saying “I do”. The whole day was perfect and more than we ever could have dreamed of. Everything came together in the end. If we had to pick one part it would have to be the ceremony, as it’s the most important part of the day in my eyes. We had a Gospel Choir who really set the tone for an uplifting ceremony, in a beautiful church Ballisodare. Standing on the altar surrounded by all your family and friends smiling up at you while you say I do is a really special moment, we really felt the love!

My advice for other couples… Enjoy every single second of it all. From the engagement to the last few days before the wedding, take it all in. If something small goes wrong, no one will notice. During the ceremony try to be fully present, listen to your music, listen to your priest or celebrant, readings, and really important listen to your vows, it’s all about the two of you and you won’t get that time back again so take it all in!

Last piece of advice… If you are a music lover like me, don’t cut back on reception music or the band that you really want. You can save money in other areas that aren’t as important to you. Don’t cut back on the things that mean the most whether its flowers, a photobooth etc… Do book a videographer, those memories will last forever!
